Job Title: Mechanic
Job Description
The Mechanic ensures the reliable operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and repairing industrial machines and systems. This role involves working from diagrams, sketches, blueprints, operations manuals, manufacturer instructions, and engineering specifications to dismantle, move, assemble, install, and align equipment in a heavy manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities

Ensure the proper operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance on production machines in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer instructions, and engineering specifications.

Troubleshoot mechanical malfunctions by observing equipment in operation, listening for irregularities, and using precision measuring and testing instruments to identify the source of problems.

Dismantle, move, assemble, install, weld, perform torch work, and repair industrial machinery and equipment based on layout plans, blueprints, drawings, or verbal instructions.

Disassemble equipment and machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools to remove defective parts and prepare for repair or replacement.

Move machinery and equipment safely using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks to support installation, relocation, or repair work.

Assemble and install equipment such as conveyors using appropriate hand and power tools, ensuring proper alignment and secure installation.

Construct foundations and align machines to meet operational specifications and support stable, safe equipment performance.

Perform scheduled inspections and maintenance on machinery and mechanical systems to minimize unexpected downtime and extend equipment life.

Control and reduce equipment downtime by applying effective routine preventive maintenance techniques and timely repairs.

Set up and operate machine tools and fabrication machinery to rework existing parts or fabricate new parts as needed for repairs and upgrades.

Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and layout drawings to carry out mechanical and electrical assembly, installation, and repair tasks.

Handle welding and torch operations as part of equipment fabrication, modification, and repair activities.

Travel to other locations as needed to support maintenance, installation, or repair work at different facilities.

Perform other related work and maintenance tasks as assigned by management to support overall equipment reliability and plant operations.
Essential Skills

Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical systems, with the ability to diagnose issues by observing equipment operation and using precision measuring and testing instruments.

Demonstrated experience in mechanical maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting for industrial machinery and equipment.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and layout drawings for mechanical and electrical systems.

Proficiency in operating machines and fabrication equipment to rework or manufacture new parts as needed.

Hands-on experience with diesel and electrical systems, including repair and maintenance of diesel engines and related components.

Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics, including the ability to maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Experience performing preventive maintenance on production machinery to reduce downtime and maintain performance.

Proficiency in using hand and power tools such as hammers, wrenches, crowbars, hoists, cranes, and various power tools for dismantling, assembly, and installation.

Ability to perform welding and torch work safely and effectively in a heavy manufacturing environment.

Understanding of three-phase electrical systems, motors, and wiring, with the ability to support electrical assembly and repair tasks.

Mechanical assembly skills for building, aligning, and installing machinery and equipment components.

Electrical assembly skills for installing and connecting wiring, motors, and related electrical components according to schematics.

Work Environment
The role is based in a heavy manufacturing environment, working directly with industrial machinery, mechanical systems, and fabrication equipment. You will regularly use hand and power tools, hoists, cranes, dollies, rollers, and trucks to dismantle, move, and install equipment. The setting involves active production areas with large machines, diesel and electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and three-phase power. Work may include travel to additional locations as needed to support installations and repairs.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ghent, KY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
