Are you an experienced maintenance professional who takes pride in solving problems and completing quality work? The Elkhart Housing Authority is seeking a dependable and skilled Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician to help maintain safe, clean, and comfortable homes for the residents we serve.
The ideal candidate has recent hands-on experience in residential or building maintenance and can confidently perform repairs in several skilled areas, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general property maintenance.
Position Summary
The Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician performs general maintenance, repairs, and rehabilitation of residential dwelling units, buildings, grounds, and related equipment. Work must be completed in accordance with HUD regulations, Housing Quality Standards (HQS), agency policies, and established safety requirements.
This position requires participation in a rotating on-call schedule and may include overtime for emergency maintenance needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance in occupied and vacant residential units.
- Diagnose and complete repairs involving plumbing, basic electrical systems, carpentry, drywall, painting, appliances, and general building systems.
- Prepare vacant units for occupancy in accordance with agency standards.
- Ensure residential units meet applicable HUD Housing Quality Standards.
- Respond to emergency maintenance situations while assigned to the rotating on-call schedule.
- Complete work orders, inspection records, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
- Properly maintain tools, equipment, agency vehicles, and assigned work areas.
- Follow all agency safety procedures, drug-free workplace policies, and Equal Employment Opportunity requirements.
- Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet all the following requirements:
- A minimum of two years of recent, hands-on experience in residential maintenance, home repair, construction, property rehabilitation, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated ability to perform work in multiple maintenance areas, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general repairs.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have and maintain their own basic hand tools needed to perform daily maintenance responsibilities.
- Must be available to participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
- Must be available to work overtime when operational or emergency needs require it.
- Must be able to perform the physical responsibilities associated with maintenance work.
Driver’s License Requirement—Mandatory
A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required for this position.
The selected candidate must be eligible to drive agency vehicles and meet the requirements of the Elkhart Housing Authority’s insurance carrier. Candidates who do not possess a valid driver’s license or who cannot meet the agency’s driving and insurance requirements will not be eligible for employment in this position.
