Reports To: Unit Director Job Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt, and Part Time (20-29 hrs/wk)
Salary Range: $13.73 - $14.00/hour
Work Hours:
· School Year Program: After school (Mon-Fri) Varies; may range between 2:30PM – 6:00 PM, not to exceed 20-24 hrs/week.
· Summer Program: Varies; may range between 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM, not to exceed 35 hrs/week.
· Flexibility for occasional evening and weekend events.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Youth Development Professional (YDP) helps plan, lead, and oversee activities for Club members in daily programming, with a special focus on making the summer experience fun, exciting, and memorable for all participants. This role supports our core focus areas: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship. YDPs create a safe, engaging environment where youth can explore new interests, build friendships, and enjoy enriching summer experiences. The Youth Development Professional plays a key leadership role in advancing the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Great Lakes Region by fostering a culture of equity, safety, growth, and excellence, while helping ensure each member has a positive and enjoyable summer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supporting Youth Development
- Build a welcoming environment that encourages participation.
- Assist with member sign-ups and orientation for new youth.
- Provide positive guidance and act as a role model for members.
- Incorporate technology into programs and activities.
2. Program Delivery
- Lead and assist with activities, programs, and services for drop-in members and visitors.
- Monitor and review program quality, safety, and overall Club appearance.
- Document participation and outcomes through routine activity reports.
3. Team Collaboration
- Contribute to a positive work culture.
- Attend staff meetings and required trainings.
4. Safety & Cleanliness
- Ensure youth follow all Club safety and sanitation procedures.
- Help maintain cleanliness and proper sanitation of program areas and materials.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation & Experience
· High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
· Experience in youth development and/or education.
· Experience working with diverse populations and fostering inclusive environments.
Skills & Competencies
· Ability to plan and lead youth programming in a group setting.
· Ability to motivate young people and manage youth behaviors in a group setting.
· Strong teamwork, problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
· Culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and equity-driven mindset.
· Proficient in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and online reporting systems.
Physical & Work Requirements
· Must be able to move about the facility, interact with youth, and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
· Regularly operates office equipment (e.g., computer, printer, phone).
· Must have reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
· Able to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
