Title: Teaching Kitchen Chef - Health Educator III - Rural Health Transformation Project Grant

Summary:
Lead a teaching kitchen that will provide education in hands-on cooking skills and steps to prepare healthy meals for individuals with diet-related chronic health conditions. This role is a part-time (up to 20 hours per week), temporary (3 to 6-month position) with renewal possible.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Work with a dietician and participants to develop and deliver healthy cooking classes for the teaching kitchen.
Provide group education on shopping skills at a local grocery store.
Lead cooking demonstrations in which participants cook along with the chef.
Help participants develop confidence in their ability to cook healthy meals at home by demonstrating easy and seamless cooking techniques during the teaching kitchen.
Provide nutritional information during cooking classes in partnership with the dietician.
Emphasize the concept of “food as medicine without sacrificing taste” during teaching kitchen classes.
Participate in all training required for the grant.
Attend meetings as required.
Requirements:
The teaching kitchen chef will provide group education at a local grocery store and lead cooking classes at the Rowan-Virtua Teaching Kitchen. This is a part-time hourly position. The role is a 6-month position with renewal possible.
Qualifications:
Cooking experience with knowledge of healthy cooking techniques and the use of whole food in the preparation of healthy meals. Strong teaching and training skills that integrate humor to keep individuals engaged in the teaching kitchen. Ability to inspire confidence for community participants in cooking healthy meals through seamless demonstration of replicable cooking techniques.
