Job Overview
The Shipping Lead oversees daily shipping operations to ensure all outbound orders are prepared, verified, and dispatched accurately and on time. This role provides hands-on coordination of shipping activities, maintains compliance with company standards and carrier requirements, and supports overall warehouse workflow. The Shipping Lead serves as the primary point of contact for shipping staff, partners with Inventory and Receiving teams to resolve discrepancies, and drives efficiency, safety, and continuous improvement within the shipping area
Hours
Sunday - Wednesday (every other Wednesday off) 10pm - 10am
Duties
- Oversee and execute daily shipping operations, including order staging, pallet verification, labeling, paperwork preparation, and trailer loading.
- Ensure all outbound shipments meet required accuracy, quality, and timeliness standards.
- Coordinate with carriers and dispatch teams to maintain on‑time shipping schedules.
- Verify all products meet temperature, packaging, and quality specifications prior to shipment.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation, including bills of lading (BOLs), manifests, and temperature logs.
- Assign, direct, and support day‑to‑day tasks for shipping associates.
- Train team members on shipping procedures, equipment use, and safety protocols.
- Provide real‑time support to resolve product discrepancies, load changes, and other operational issues.
- Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, and all food‑safety requirements.
- Promote a positive, safe, and efficient work environment.
- Partner with Inventory Control to resolve SKU and quantity discrepancies.
- Communicate shortages, substitutions, and shipment risks promptly to relevant teams.
- Enforce proper product rotation standards (FIFO/FEFO).
- Ensure safe and effective operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, wrappers, RF scanners, and other equipment.
- Enforce safety policies, PPE standards, and cold‑environment protocols.
- Report equipment issues and coordinate necessary repairs or maintenance.
- Recommend improvements to shipping workflows, documentation, and processes.
- Assist with audits, cycle counts, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work effectively in refrigerated or cold‑storage conditions (32–40°F).
- Work flexible schedules, including early mornings or weekends, based on business needs.
- Perform frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Proven experience in warehouse management or supervisory roles within a logistics or distribution environment
- Strong knowledge of inventory management, shipping & receiving procedures, and materials handling techniques
- Hands-on experience with warehouse management systems such as AS400 or equivalent platforms
- Valid forklift certification and mechanical knowledge for safe operation of heavy equipment
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards related to warehousing operations and heavy lifting practices
- Excellent team management skills with the ability to motivate staff and foster a safety-conscious work environment
- Experience working with e-commerce fulfillment centers or 3PL providers is highly desirable
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in inventory control and process documentation
