Job Description
Overview
The Cardiovascular Operating Room Director provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for a dedicated cardiovascular surgical services department within a high-volume acute care environment. This role holds full accountability for nursing practice, operational performance, financial outcomes, and patient safety across a specialized CVOR service line. The position offers a unique opportunity to lead a standalone cardiovascular operating unit with a focused scope on cardiac surgical excellence, evidence-based practice, and team development.
Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership and accountability for cardiovascular operating room operations, nursing practice, and service line performance
Establish and execute departmental goals aligned with organizational strategy and quality objectives
Oversee financial performance, budgeting, and resource utilization for the CVOR service line
Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and patient safety standards
Promote and integrate evidence-based practice, clinical research, and quality improvement initiatives
Foster a professional practice environment through relationship-centered leadership
Utilize clinical, operational, human resource, and financial data to support informed decision-making
Lead talent development, engagement, and succession planning within the department
Qualifications
Required
Master’s degree in Nursing or BSN with MBA, MHA, or related healthcare graduate degree
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Minimum of three years of progressive nursing leadership experience
Demonstrated experience in cardiovascular or open-heart surgical services
Proficiency with standard business and clinical software applications
Preferred
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
Five or more years of progressive leadership experience
National Nursing Leadership Certification (required within one year of hire if not already obtained)
