Patterson & Dewar Engineers is seeking a substation testing and commissioning associate to join our Hood Patterson & Dewar electrical testing and commissioning team. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and team-oriented, well versed in commissioning and NETA testing of utility substations. Additionally, this individual would be willing to assist in commissioning of other types of equipment if the need should arise. The projects are scattered throughout the country and thus the willingness to travel is a must.

Responsibilities
· Protection & Control design review for electrical substations, both new construction and upgrades/retrofits
· Perform NETA acceptance testing and commissioning as needed at utility substations, onsite generator plants or other critical power systems
· QAQC inspections of substations, onsite generation systems and other critical power installations
· Interface with clients daily as a technical representative, providing clear, professional communication regarding protection, control, and commissioning activities to support project execution
· Review relay files, program relays, test relays
· Yellow-line utility substation schematics
· Communicate issues and provide reports to clients and co-workers regarding activities on site and issues identified
· Functional testing and troubleshooting of protection and control circuits in substations
· Familiarity of applicable codes and standards (i.e. NEC, NESC, IEEE)
· Develop proficiency with test equipment and applications necessary to complete projects requested by clients
· Stay informed of client, industry, and company news and developments
Skills and Qualifications
· A BS in EE or ME from an ABET accredited university or 2 year associate degree
· 5+ years of experience in electrical testing of substation equipment.
· 5+ years of experience in troubleshooting and verifying protection and controls within substation equipment
· 3+ years of experience working in systems to serve datacenters
· NETA 3 or higher certification is a plus
· Relay programming experience particularly SEL relays
· PE certification a plus
· Proficiency with Microsoft® Office (required), and Office 365 and SharePoint (preferred)
· Service-oriented attitude

· Strong organizational skills
· 3 substation related references from individuals who worked directly with the candidate
· Willingness to travel
This position requires significant travel Monday through Friday depending on where the candidate lives. Testing and commissioning engineers may be asked to work extended hours occasionally in order to meet project deadlines. Candidates must pass a background check and drug test prior to employment.
