Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide hands-on support to adults with developmental disabilities in a CILA residential setting and/or CDS program. As a DSP, you will help individuals build daily living skills, participate in their communities, and pursue their personal goals — all while ensuring their health, safety, and rights are respected.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct personal care and support (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding as needed)
- Assist individuals with daily living skills: meal prep, budgeting, household chores, medication reminders/administration
- Support individuals in community activities, appointments, employment, and social engagements
- Implement Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and behavior support plans as written
- Document services accurately and timely per DHS/DHFS and agency requirements
- Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming home environment
- Communicate effectively with team members, families, guardians, and case managers
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow all safety protocols
- Uphold each individual's rights, choices, dignity, and person-centered goals
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Must be at least 19 years of age
- Valid Illinois driver's license and reliable transportation (if applicable to role)
- Ability to pass background checks (IDPH Health Care Worker Registry, DCFS, criminal background)
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Completion of DHS-approved DSP training/College of DirectCare (or willingness to complete)
- Prior caregiving or DSP experience preferred but not required — we provide paid training
- Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills
- Physical ability to assist with transfers, lifting, and personal care tasks
