The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who enjoys being on the plant floor, solving complex technical challenges, and improving equipment reliability and performance. This individual will act as the mechanical subject matter expert for highly automated systems including robotics, material handling equipment, automated assembly systems, and other production machinery.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical commissioning and startup of new manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
Partner with maintenance, operations, controls, and project teams to ensure successful equipment installation and integration.
Serve as the primary mechanical engineering resource for troubleshooting equipment performance, reliability, and design-related issues.
Collaborate with equipment manufacturers and vendors to resolve technical challenges during installation, startup, and production ramp-up.
Evaluate equipment performance and recommend design modifications to improve safety, reliability, maintainability, and throughput.
Support root cause investigations and corrective actions related to equipment failures and production disruptions.
Review mechanical designs, drawings, specifications, and layouts to ensure manufacturability and operational effectiveness.
Assist with equipment acceptance testing, validation activities, and production readiness reviews.
Develop and maintain engineering documentation, standard operating procedures, and technical specifications.
Support capital projects involving automation, robotics, material handling systems, and production equipment upgrades.
Provide technical mentorship and guidance to maintenance and operations teams regarding equipment functionality and best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing, automation, industrial, or production environment.
Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, startup, or production launches.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems including conveyors, motors, drives, pneumatics, hydraulics, robotics, or automated manufacturing equipment.
Experience troubleshooting complex equipment issues in a production environment.
Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, layouts, schematics, and technical specifications.
Strong project coordination and cross-functional communication skills.
Comfortable spending significant time on the manufacturing floor supporting operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with industrial robotics such as FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, or similar platforms.
Exposure to automated assembly systems, material handling equipment, packaging equipment, or high-volume manufacturing processes.
Experience supporting equipment vendors during installation and startup activities.
Familiarity with reliability engineering, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
CAD experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Creo, or similar design software.
Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma training/certification.
