Position
Capital equipment sales role focused on meeting and exceeding sales targets within an assigned geographical region. The product line responsibilities include BUCHI handheld, at-line, and on-line Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR) products. Qualified candidates will have a scientific background, as well as a proven track record of success in capital equipment sales. This position will coordinate with our local account managers to support academic sales and leverage existing relationships to position BUCHI’s NIR equipment portfolio at key accounts. This position will work independently of local account managers.
- Based in the Central or Midwest region of the United States
- Entirely focused on NIR equipment and accessories
- Secondary target will be to grow installation and point-of-sale service items in the given territory
- Overnight travel is required, likely amounting to 30% of the work-week
Basic Qualifications
- BS/BA in chemistry or related field
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent verbal, written, and phone communication skills with a strong interest in interacting directly with customers
- Skilled at developing and maintaining effective working relationships
- Self-motivated and excels under pressure
- Highly functional in MS Office suite including (PowerBI, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
- Customer Relationship Management (CRM) experience is required; BUCHI uses Salesforce (SFDC)
Preferred Qualifications
- BS/MS in chemistry
- Experience with NIR and/or food analysis techniques
- 6 months or more of academic research or industry lab experience
Reporting
The NIR Sales Representative will report directly to the NIR Business Unit Manager of BUCHI Corporation. This position falls under the Commercial Team led by the GM of North America.
Job Description
A. Scope
As a key member of the BUCHI team, the NIR Sales Representative has the primary responsibility of developing new relationships and growing instrument sales to existing and new customers. Other duties include some pre- and post-sales support, technical and application support. The Sales Specialist will liaise with customer service, field service, and the corporate headquarters in Switzerland.
B. Specific Responsibilities
- Direct point of contact for all incoming leads in the territory, and responsible for generating new leads and both generating and managing opportunities
- Entry of all related activities into BUCHI’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
- Implementation and input into marketing campaigns and materials in coordination with the Head of Marketing, the Marketing and Communications Specialist, and the Product Manager(s) at headquarters
- Training sales, service, customer support in various aspects of the NIR product line
- Execution of technical solutions such as seminars, webinars, applications papers, oral presentations, posters, and web training

- Performing customer training at customer sites, and remotely supporting customers in their utilization of BUCHI NIR instruments
- Troubleshooting applications, configurations, and part requests
- Updating CRM records to reflect customer interactions
- Be available for up to 30% overnight travel. This includes customer visits for training and application development, installation, trade shows, conferences, and possibly international travel. Occasional travel on or over weekends is possible to set up a trade show or to travel internationally.
