As part of a two-person HR team, the Human Resources Manager will play a key operational role in managing day-to-day HR activities for both the Club and Corporation. This hands-on position provides the opportunity to contribute across all areas of human resources, including recruiting and onboarding, benefits administration, payroll, employee engagement, employee relations, performance management, training and development, HR systems, and compliance with employment laws and organizational policies.
Working closely with department leaders and staff, you’ll provide practical HR support, address workplace needs, and contribute to programs and practices that support both people and the organization. This is far more than a traditional HR position.
Located within a private gated community along the Chesapeake Bay, Gibson Island Club and Gibson Island Corporation supports approximately 300 employees throughout the year across an exceptionally diverse workforce. As Human Resources Manager, you'll partner with employees and leaders in hospitality, food and beverage, golf, racquets, summer camp, marina and harbor operations, boat maintenance, housekeeping, landscaping, facilities, and police and security services.

Working as part of a collaborative two-person Human Resources team, you'll serve as a trusted resource to leaders and staff while balancing meaningful day-to-day HR operations with longer-term initiatives.
What You'll Do: Your responsibilities will include:
· Review payroll changes and process weekly payroll, including compensation changes, deductions, leave, benefits, timekeeping corrections, and final pay.
· Support full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, background checks, I-9 verification, new-hire orientation, and offboarding for year-round and seasonal employees.
· Support the administration of employee benefits, including enrollments, communications, audits, reporting, and compliance for medical, dental, vision, life, HRA, FSA, paid leave, and 401(k) programs.
· Administer HR compliance programs, including FMLA, ADA, EEO, workers’ compensation, OSHA, ACA, and required reporting and postings.
· Coordinate employee engagement, recognition, welcome initiatives, and HR-related events in partnership with internal teams.
· Maintain accurate employee records and Paycom HRIS data, generate HR metrics and reports, and provide employee and manager support for HRIS, payroll, timekeeping, leave, scheduling, tax, and self-service functions.

Requirements and Qualifications: This position requires an HR professional with strong operational capability, attention to detail, and the ability to support a wide range of HR functions in a service-oriented environment. The ideal candidate is collaborative, dependable, and comfortable working across multiple HR disciplines while exercising sound judgment and working in partnership with senior HR leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field
- Five or more years of progressive Human Resources experience, ideally combining both HR generalist and specialist responsibilities such as recruiting, benefits administration, and/or payroll
- SHRM certification or comparable HR credential preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong understanding of federal and state employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, COBRA, OSHA, and wage and hour regulations
- Excellent analytical and technology skills, including HR reporting, spreadsheets, data analysis, and presentation development; AI skills that enhance HR effectiveness are a plus
- Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build relationships at every level of the organization; Spanish language proficiency is a plus
- A customer-focused mindset and genuine commitment to creating an inclusive, engaged, and high-performing workplace
- Ability to balance daily HR operations with project management and process improvements

Compensation and Benefits:
Competitive salary: commensurate with relevant work experience, education, skills, and abilities: $85K to $95K; 5% bonus eligible.
