A rapidly growing national provider of power generation maintenance, repair, and emergency service solutions is seeking an experienced Power Generator Technician to join its field service team in the Minneapolis market. Job Summary
The Power Generator Technician is responsible for independently performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, load bank testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of standby generator systems. This position works with diesel, natural gas, and propane-powered generators supporting mission-critical power applications.
This role is ideal for technicians with a strong foundation in power generation who are looking to continue advancing their technical expertise and career growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and repair services on standby generator systems.
- Independently diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate tools and technical documentation.
- Troubleshoot generator and engine system components, including batteries, starters, alternators, fuel systems, cooling systems, and control panels.
- Conduct load bank testing, inspections, and performance evaluations.
- Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and parts usage documentation.
- Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).
- Follow all company safety policies and customer site requirements.
- Support and mentor less experienced technicians when appropriate.
- Participate in technical training programs and certification opportunities.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support emergency service requests.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical training or certifications related to diesel engines, power generation, electrical systems, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience servicing commercial or industrial generator systems.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in field and outdoor environments.
- Proficient with diagnostic tools, multimeters, and load bank equipment.
- Experience with major generator manufacturers such as Cummins, Caterpillar, Generac, Kohler, MTU, or similar equipment preferred.
