Turn Your GM Technician Experience Into a Leadership Career
Are you a seasoned GM or Chevrolet technician who knows the product, understands how a busy service department should operate, but is ready to step away from turning wrenches every day?
This may be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
We are looking for an experienced Chevrolet Shop Dispatcher / Technical Team Leader to help lead the day-to-day operation of our Chevrolet service shop. This is much more than simply assigning repair orders. We are looking for someone who can use their technical experience to help technicians succeed, keep work moving through the shop, improve communication, and maintain a high level of accountability.
For the right person, this position is designed to be a pathway into service management and future leadership opportunities.
What You’ll Do
- Dispatch and prioritize repair orders to the appropriate technicians based on skill level, workload, and customer needs.
- Monitor repairs throughout the day to ensure work is being completed correctly, efficiently, and on time.
- Assist technicians with diagnosis and technical direction when needed.
- Help eliminate bottlenecks and keep vehicles moving through the shop.
- Work closely with Service Advisors and management to identify delays before they become customer problems.
- Speak with customers when necessary to help verify or duplicate concerns, particularly on difficult diagnostic issues.
- Help maintain an organized, professional, and productive shop environment.
- Monitor technician productivity, efficiency, workflow, and work-in-process.
- Help ensure technicians are following Chevrolet/GM repair procedures and dealership standards.
- Keep GM manufacturer training and certifications at peak levels, helping technicians stay current with required training.
- Identify coaching and development opportunities within the technician team.
- Help create a culture of urgency, accountability, teamwork, and quality workmanship.
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is someone who has spent years in a GM service department and understands what technicians deal with every day.
You may be a great fit if you are:
- An experienced GM/Chevrolet technician, diagnostic technician, shop foreman, team leader, or dispatcher.
- Strong in electrical, drivability, diagnostics, and GM repair processes.
- Familiar with GM manufacturer training and dealership service operations.
- Respected by other technicians and comfortable providing technical guidance.
- Organized and capable of managing multiple repairs and priorities at the same time.
- Able to communicate effectively with technicians, advisors, managers, and customers.
- Someone who holds people accountable but is also willing to jump in and help solve problems.
- Ready to move beyond turning wrenches and begin developing your leadership and management career.
