WASTEWATER OPERATOR POSITION DESCRIPTION
General Statement of Duties:
The Wastewater Operator under the direction of the Wastewater Superintendent, is knowledgeable and instructive in operation and maintenance duties and performs other work as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- General knowledge of mechanics.
- Computer skills involving but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Able to perform maintenance in hazardous conditions.
- Self-motivated.
- Clean driving record and valid SD driver’s license – reliable transportation.
- Skilled in communication.
- Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Frequent use of hands and arms.
- Employee is occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Able to lift 50 lbs. or more occasionally.
Job Duties include, but not limited to:
- Assist Wastewater Superintendent in collection of daily samples.
- Conduct daily inspections of wastewater system.
- Perform laboratory tests on collected samples.
- Repair or replace various pumps and equipment when necessary.
- General maintenance on buildings and equipment.
- Operation of equipment i.e. (Telehandler, Skid Steer, Mini Track hoe).
- Enter laboratory results into excel spreadsheets.
- Perform supply runs at various locations.
- Fill out forms and do deliveries of various samples to laboratory.
- Perform locates for utilities as requested by 811.
- General lawncare (i.e., mowing and weed eating operations).
- Analyze data to determine correct operation of treatment plant.
- Occasional operation of snowplow, removal of snow around city grounds.
- Must be able to be on call some nights and weekends determined by management.
- Any and all other work as deemed necessary by management.
- Be knowledgeable of and implement and adhere to all OSHA and other applicable safety regulations.
Work Environment:
Employee works inside and outdoors regardless of weather. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to heat, cold, rain and snow, along with dirt, dust and foul orders.
