The Youth Leader is an individual who works with students in an after-school program, providing supervision, academic support, enrichment activities, and positive mentorship under the direction of the Program Coordinator and/or Site Supervisor.
The Youth Leader helps create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for students while promoting personal growth, teamwork, and social development.
Schedule & Hours:
- Monday-Friday, following the school district calendar
- Location: San Diego Unified
- Grades: K-12
- Pay: $19-$21/hour
- After-school hours: approximately 12:30 PM-6:00 PM (varies by day/site)
- Hours: 15-25 hours per week, per diem and ongoing assignments available
- School holidays and breaks off (winter, spring, and summer)
- Additional opportunities may be available for special events, camps, or substitute assignments
Role Overview:
As a Youth Leader, you will support students in an after-school program by:
- Leading and supervising groups of school-age children
- Assisting students with homework and academic enrichment activities
- Facilitating recreational, educational, and social-emotional learning activities
- Promoting positive behavior and encouraging student engagement
- Ensuring student safety during indoor and outdoor activities
- Building positive relationships with students, families, and school personnel
- Supporting program staff with daily operations and activity preparation
The School Aide is an individual who works with students requiring instructional, and/or behavioral assistance under the supervision of the special education department, teacher and/or supervising designee. The School Aide may also provide support services to assist students with personal, physical mobility and therapeutic care needs, as established by a rehabilitation health practitioner, social worker or other health care professional.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
