**About the Role**
Mayflower Sales Co is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee our day-to-day accounting operations and play a key role in shaping financial strategy. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who thrives on accuracy, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration — and who wants to be a trusted partner to management on everything from monthly close to long-term budgeting.
**What You'll Do**
- Oversee daily accounting activities to ensure accuracy and that internal controls are adequate and consistently applied
- Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
- Monitor and analyze department workflow to develop and implement more efficient procedures while maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Support the preparation of annual audits and collaborate with the outside auditing firm to ensure a timely, accurate process
- Review and approve all invoices, accounts payable, and inventory transactions
- Manage accounts receivable and oversee payroll processing
- Assist management in analyzing financial performance against key business goals, tracking progress against budgets
- Forecast and control the company's cash cycle
- Achieve accounting operational objectives that support optimal profitability
- Help manage clerical/accounting staff, including training for new and existing team members
- Play a key role in developing the annual budget and executing the company's strategy and talent plan
- Calculate and administer commission payments to the sales team
- Oversee select HR and IT-related functions as needed
- Participate in developing and monitoring the capital budget
- Manage sales and use tax reporting and prepare accounts for tax return filing
- Complete monthly borrowing base reports and compliance reports for lenders
- Assist in preparing the quarterly board of directors package
**What You'll Bring**
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 4+ years of professional accounting experience, with strong background in financial statement preparation, budgeting, or equivalent
- Advanced Excel proficiency, including the ability to build technical spreadsheets, graphs, and tools to analyze and communicate financial trends and margins
- High degree of accuracy along with excellent communication and organizational skills
- Strong time management and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- Ability to prepare and analyze income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements on a monthly basis
**Compensation & Location**
$125,000+ annually, commensurate with experience. This is an on-site position located at 614 Bergen St, Brooklyn, NY 11238.
