Heavy Diesel Mechanic will oversee the maintenance and repair of heavy mining equipment. This role is critical for ensuring the optimal performance and safety of our fleet, which includes large wheel loaders, dozers, excavators, rigid frame haul trucks, articulated haul trucks, motor graders, skid steers, telehandlers, cranes.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures to minimize equipment downtime
- Monitor and assess equipment performance, conducting regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
- Maintain and Report on daily equipment downtimes and utilizations
- Establish and maintain safe and efficient workspaces/practices in and around Shop Area, Warehouse/Laydown yard Areas
- Coordinate with operational teams to prioritize maintenance tasks and support production goals.
- Order and maintain an inventory of repair parts and supplies, ensuring timely availability for maintenance needs.
- Manage maintenance budgets, including labor, parts, and supplies, while ensuring cost-effective practices.
- Provide training and mentorship to staff, promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment status, and inventory levels.
- Collaborate with the production team to source parts and materials needed for repairs.
- Stay up to date with federal/state regulations, industry trends, technologies, and best practices in heavy equipment maintenance.
- Oversee and manage logistics for transporting equipment to operations and company facilities, communicating with drivers and delivery partners to ensure efficient delivery of equipment and parts
Requirements:
- 5+ years' aggregates industry experience
- Certified in Mobile Equipment Repair (CAT, KOMASTU, JOHN DEERE etc.)
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience required.
- Must be safety conscious, dependable, motivated and possess a positive attitude in working with others as a team.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical and background check.
- Valid Driver’s License
Physical Requirements
- Must have hand-eye coordination and vision to safely operate mobile equipment.
- Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner. This job requires the ability to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots and hearing protection.
- Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Able to lift 75 pounds.
- Willing and able to use shovel when required.
- Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.
- Able to work from elevated platforms.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment physical/drug/alcohol test.
- Must be able to climb stairs to a height of 60 ft. and work at this height.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Effective coordination and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Understand team-based management.
- Self-starter with ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Must be able to read, write and verbally communicate in the English language.
- Strong mechanical knowledge
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in hydraulic and electrical/mechanical systems a plus
- Computer and Microsoft Office Skills
