Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Planner to fill a position in Scottsdale, Arizona. As a Senior Planner, you will be responsible for providing exceptional design and technical expertise while serving as an advisor on multiple healthcare facility projects. Your extensive knowledge and leadership skills will be essential in delivering innovative and functional architectural spaces.
Our firm is a growing, healthcare-focused architectural practice of approximately 40–50 professionals. We work on consequential projects for hospitals, health systems, rural healthcare providers, and specialty care organizations throughout Arizona and the surrounding region. Our work includes new hospitals, major renovations and expansions, emergency departments, surgical platforms, imaging, cardiac services, women’s services, inpatient units, pharmacies, sterile processing departments, and other technically demanding healthcare environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Resource Management:
- Effectively manage the firm's resources, including people, processes, and tools, ensuring proficiency and aptitude.
- Provide guidance and oversight to project teams, reviewing their work and ensuring adherence to design and planning objectives.
- Maintain continuity of design intent by following the planning and design information through the production and implementation documentation process.
- Design and Planning:
- Collaborate with architects and designers in creating, reviewing, and coordinating architectural floor plans, interior elevations, reflected ceiling plans, and equipment plans for clinical spaces.
- Participate in the conceptual design of healthcare projects, translating client operational models into architectural design and medical plans.
- Apply governing regulatory codes, hospital licensing standards, and sustainability guidelines to ensure compliance.
- Client Collaboration and Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for client questions and foster strong client relationships.
- Facilitate discussions with end users to generate real-time solutions and incorporate their input into the design process.
- Maintain detailed documentation of client meetings and prepare meeting minutes and other relevant documents for consultant coordination meetings.
- Project Coordination and Management:
- Coordinate and prepare drawings and designs in accordance with industry standards, best practices, and quality expectations.
- Lead team meetings to discuss project issues, technical aspects, and interdisciplinary coordination.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external consultants to ensure smooth project execution.
- Monitor project budgets, schedule, and deliver projects within defined requirements.
- Research and Continuous Improvement:
- Integrate research methodology into practice and leverage research insights to inform design solutions.
- Stay updated with current healthcare planning and programming concepts, patient safety standards, and evidence-based design principles.
Requirements
Candidates must possess all the following:
- Professional architectural registration.
- A desired minimum of 10 years of substantial healthcare planning experience.
- Demonstrated experience planning major hospital projects, significant hospital additions, or comparably complex acute-care environments.
- Strong working knowledge of clinical operations, departmental relationships, patient and staff flow, support-service logistics, and healthcare facility planning principles.
- Experience leading client meetings, clinical user groups, programming sessions, and planning workshops.
- The ability to communicate effectively with hospital executives, physicians, nurses, department directors, facilities personnel, consultants, and architectural teams.
