GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB (Summary)
The Shaft Superintendent manages and schedules the day-to-day operation of the lateral development project through effective direction of the Development Captain and crews to safely meet and exceed the development goals and cost targets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
-
Manages the implementation of and compliance to Cementation USA safety programs and processes as outlined in the Cementation Safety Policy Manual. Provides general direction to the Development Captain in the implementation of the Nickel Rim South Safety Calendar (Matrix)

Ensures that all project personnel are trained in their job responsibilities, understand and comply with company policies and procedures and work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act

Actively participates in safety programs, regularly inspecting all mine workings with particular emphasis on safe working conditions and practices and safe equipment operation and procedures

Ensures that all incidents are reported and participates in investigations of incidents ensuring that reports are completed in a timely and effective manner

Ensures that operations are in compliance with all applicable environmental regulations
OPERATIONS COORDINATION

Develops and reviews day-to-day operating schedules, reports, work priorities and production objectives with his Development Captain and coordinates them with maintenance, engineering and other operating groups

Supervises and schedules the day-to-day operations of the project to safely meet lateral development targets

Oversees efficient equipment operation and manpower utilization in all areas under his control, through an appropriate preventative maintenance program and procedures

Control the personnel overtime and banked days. Furthermore, manage the vacation time during the course of the year

Reviews and authorizes appropriate materials requisitions and purchase orders and submits them to the Project Manager for authorization

Ensures sufficient supplies are available to meet the lateral development goals and the general safe operation of the mine

Review, maintain, and administer company policies and procedures and advise his Development Captain on the day-to-day administration and compliance with the mining regulations, policies in a manner consistent with the company and project practices
OPERATIONS REPORTING

Maintains the required operating costs in accordance to the budget, and reports to the project manager as required. Investigates and reviews variances from budgeted controllable expenses and takes corrective action where necessary
TECHNICAL SUPPORT

Support efforts of peers and colleagues by sharing resources and technical skills Provide prominent organizational skills and a team builder to support to the mining group
EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT

Evaluates the performance of his subordinates with respect to health and safety, competency, work habits and cost effectiveness

Review the need for training, counseling and/or corrective action
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Mine Engineering or Equivalent
-
Fifteen years mine operations/project experience with five years as a senior supervisor/coordinator
CERTIFICATE(S), LICENSE(S), REGISTRATION(S)
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGEABILITIES
- An understanding of mining and mineral processes

Proficient in office software applications

Excellent organizational, presentation, interpersonal and communication skills
