Are you passionate about animal welfare? Match your compassion for animals - become the Assistant Manager at our Pet Adoption Center in Long Beach. This position assists in the management of all daily operations at this fast-paced spcaLA location.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and assist in daily operations relating to the humane care of animals by ensuring safe, sanitary conditions;
- Manage and engage staff and volunteers, foster a culture based on teamwork;
- Build strong interdepartmental communications and relationships with all departments to maximize the care of the animals and their adoptions;
- Proactively identify and report common diseases/illness to minimize spread of disease;
- Maintain the facility to ensure a clean, professional and inviting appearance for the employees, volunteers and the public;
- Ensure high quality customer service is provided by employees and volunteers;
- Represent spcaLA at appropriate functions, such as City Council meetings, tours, media appearances, special events, and the like;
- Maintain all records as required;

Key Qualifications:
- Skills: Required: Excellent interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal), leadership and customer service skills.
- Experience: Required: Minimum two-years experience in a lead or supervisory role. Preferred: Experience working at an animal shelter, kennel, or veterinary environment.
- Ability to: Handle complex situations with staff, volunteers, and/or the public professionally and diplomatically; execute projects with little or no supervision; multi-task and problem solve in a fast-paced environment. Effectively handle difficult animal care decisions including euthanasia.
- Knowledge of: State/Federal laws, ordinances and regulations relating to OSHA compliance and animal care; safe/humane handling of animals of varying sizes, temperaments, and strengths; various breeds of dogs, cats, and other domestic animals.
- Software: Required: Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook) Preferred: Shelterluv and/or other shelter management software; Microsoft Teams; Zoom.
Other essential qualifications:
- Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain insurability to operate Society vehicles during course of employment.
- Dealing with possible unruly, vicious, sick, injured and dangerous animals and impounding the same safely and humanely. Possible exposure to parasites and infectious diseases
- Mobility to stand, walk, sit, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands, fingers; reach with hands and arms; perform work, which involves lifting, carrying and/or pushing of 50 lbs. or more;
