Title: Part-time Student Circulation Assistant LowellCampus Library

General Summary: Middlesex Community College seeks enthusiastic and service-oriented student circulation assistants reporting to the Coordinator(s) of Library Services to provide circulation services on the Bedford and Lowell campuses. The Circulation Assistants will work collaboratively with staff who are in the public service areas. The student circulation assistant will ensure that the MCC community (students, faculty, and staff) have access to the print and digital resources available through the MCC library. The ideal candidate must enjoy working with our diverse community of users.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides a welcoming and helpful first contact to students, faculty, and staff visiting the library;

Provides all circulation functions for the library.

Assists with creating library accounts for faculty and staff as needed.

Assists in the closing protocol of the Bedford or Lowell campus library for evenings during the fall and spring semesters;

Shelves materials in the correct location upon being returned to the library;

Helps to maintain the library in good order;

Runs daily request list and retrieves items to fill interlibrary loan requests;

Assists in maintaining adequate paper and toner in library printers and copiers to ensure their ongoing operation;

Assists with all the basic clerical functions including word processing, photocopying, and scanning. Prints signs and labels as requested.

Helps in directing those needing information to the proper staff person in the library or elsewhere on campus;

Serves as a backup for other library staff in their absence;
Minimum Qualifications:
- Be in good academic and student conduct standing
-
Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.0

Excellent interpersonal skills, including a commitment to providing excellent service

Demonstrate an ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate efficiently with students

Work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds
-
Strong oral and written communication skills, including basic computing skills

Detail-oriented and reliable.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve common goals.

Availability to attend mandatory training, an orientation session, and the scheduled shifts throughout the semester.

Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual skills a plus.

Customer service skills (phone and in person) a plus.

Tech savvy (Microsoft Office suite, Blackboard etc.).
Hourly Rate: $17.75
Location: Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford as needed
Hours: up to 12 per week, schedule to be determined upon hire. Multiple positions available.
- Lowell 3:30-6:30 Monday and Wednesday

Expected Start Date:September 8 or 9, 2026 with training in late August or early September.
