Job Overview
The Senior Manager for Windsor Library (WL) oversees and evaluates all aspects of operations at the Windsor Library. This position is responsible for establishing WL goals and objectives; leading, developing, and supervising Windsor Library staff and volunteers; fostering positive public interactions; overseeing the quality and condition of the library collection, managing the Windsor Library budget, and ensuring the care, safety, and maintenance of facilities.
This individual also leads and coordinates the Mobile Services team, guiding strategy, management, and execution of Mobile Services initiatives and logistics. A primary focus of this role is to ensure the establishment of the Bookmobile and mobile services team as the District's third location, supporting data-driven planning and creative scheduling to enhance community access to mobile services.
Essential Functions
1. Supervision of Staff
- Provides direct supervision of the Customer Service Supervisor, Mobile Services Supervisor, Librarian II, and Teen Librarian I.
- Models exceptional customer service and professionalism in all interactions.
- Effectively manages staff by setting and enforcing clear boundaries, promoting accountability and performance.
- Confidently makes decisions in the best interest of the team and organization.
- Sets objectives, organizes resources, and develops procedures for staff and library.
- Provides staff with appropriate training, coaching and mentoring while giving feedback/evaluations.
- Staff management: meetings, training and coaching is directed towards encouraging exemplary staff performance and collaborative WL efforts.
- Promotes clear, consistent communication across departments and team members.
- Partner with WL leadership to strategically coordinate staffing schedules, program calendars, and special events.
2. WL Library Management
- Identifies objectives for the operation of the Windsor Library to compliment the goals of the Clearview Library District.
- Working with the Library Director, develops, implements, and evaluates concepts, practices, and innovations to improve the quality of service, challenges operating processes for greater efficiency and effectiveness, and facilitates problem-solving.
- Develop goals and objectives aligned with the library’s strategic plan and community needs.
- Ensure high standards of customer service and respond to patron questions, concerns, and service issues.
- Analyze statistics, usage trends, and service outcomes to support operational planning and decision-making.
- Collaborate with library leadership to coordinate system-wide services, programming, staffing, and operational initiatives.
- Cooperates with administrative teams to curate a vibrant, high-quality collection and maintain seamless technology systems.
- Supports library services point scheduling to ensure robust coverage.
- Manage the location facilities working closely with the Facilities Maintenance Technicians to resolve building concerns.
- Monitor and maintain facilities to ensure a safe, welcoming, and functional environment.
3. Visioning and Leadership
- Participate in strategic planning, facilities planning, and service design to align Windsor Library initiatives with organizational goals and community needs.
- Engage in Executive Leadership team meetings, and stakeholder discussions to represent the Severance Library priorities and explore future-focused solutions.
- Coordinate cross-departmental activities and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
- Models exceptional customer service and professionalism in all interactions.
- Performs the duties of direct reports in their absence, to ensure proper functioning of the library.
4. Budget & Resource Management
- Develops and manages the Windsor Library and Mobile Services operating budgets.
- Monitor expenditures and ensure responsible use of public funds, identifying efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities.
- Works closely with the Finance Manager and Director to develop and maintain the Windsor Library capital replacement schedule and budget.
- Facilitate the flow of information, distributes authority, and allocates resources in order to provide the necessary resources to accomplish the goals of the Clearview Library District.
- Allocates staff time to accomplish Library programming goals, programs, outreach and collaborations.
5. Public Relations and Customer Service
- Represents the Library to community, local non-profits, business, and social groups, and associations through meetings, public speaking engagements, committee participation and provides responses to complaints and compliments expressed by the public.
- Works with the Communications team to ensure effective marketing for Library events and services.
- Resolves employee complaints and works closely with the Customer Service Supervisor to resolve patron complaints.
6. Other duties as assigned.
Incumbents will be required to work evenings and weekends, be on call, and travel to external events.
Supervisory Responsibility
- Directly supervises the Customer Service Supervisor, Mobile Services Supervisor, Librarian II, and Teen Librarian I.
- Serves as the Most Responsible Person (MRP) and participates in the regular MRP rotation schedule, including evening and weekend coverage.
Education and Experience Required
- Master of Library and Information Science with a minimum of three (3) years of similar or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Requires five (5) years’ library experience, preferably in a public library.
- A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience, including demonstrated leadership growth and team management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of public library goals, policies, and services.
- Project management principles and procedures in the planning and implementation of programs and services
- Demonstrates the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities, environments, and business needs while maintaining high performance and attention to detail.
- Ability to budget, plan, and work within budget structure.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work within the library platforms, such as Sierra and Marmot.
- Practical working knowledge of supervisory methods, including work delegation, scheduling, evaluating performance and maintaining morale.
- Effective in leading and working with a wide range of constituencies including library board,community organizations and local governments.
- Knowledge of reader interest levels and group community interests.
- Knowledge of professional library literature, multi-media, and library technology.
- Ability to analyze issues and make informed recommendations and decisions.
Work Environment
Position may require being up and moving around Library locations and, at times, stationary at work station. The job requires stooping, bending, squatting, and stretching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (with keyboard, shelving), eye-hand coordination, data entry, and computer use for accessing information. Should be conscious of appropriate ergonomics and workstation setup.

Pay: $104,808.00 - $128,390.00 per year
