Job Description
Multi-site, multi-provider podiatry practice seeking an experienced Podiatry and Pathology Medical Biller and Coder to join our Business Office team. This position supports the revenue cycle operations of an established podiatry practice and in-house pathology laboratory.
Candidates must have direct experience with Athenahealth, podiatry billing and coding, insurance accounts receivable follow-up, denial management, appeals, and insurance reimbursement. Experience billing and collecting for podiatric surgery, wound care, durable medical equipment (DME), custom orthotics, ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs), and PCR nail and wound pathology laboratory services is required.
This position works closely with providers, clinical staff, laboratory personnel, and Business Office team members to support accurate billing, coding, reimbursement, and revenue cycle performance.
We are open to full-time, part-time, contract/freelance, remote, hybrid, and on-site candidates based on qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities
- Review, submit, and monitor insurance claims
- Perform insurance follow-up and assist with claim resolution
- Review medical records, encounter documentation, coding, and claims for accuracy
- Identify and communicate documentation, coding, and billing concerns
- Assist with claim corrections and appeals
- Maintain accurate documentation within Athenahealth
- Work collaboratively with providers, clinical staff, laboratory personnel, and Business Office team members
- Support Business Office operations
Qualifications
- Direct Athenahealth billing and coding experience
- Direct podiatry billing and coding experience
- Experience with insurance accounts receivable follow-up, denial management, and appeals
- Experience working with Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and commercial insurance payers
- Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS coding, modifiers, and payer guidelines
- Ability to review medical records, coding, and claims for accuracy and identify billing discrepancies
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Professional, dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively within a team environment
Preferred
- CPC, CPB, or equivalent coding certification
