Position Summary
Midstate Mechanical is seeking an experienced and strategic Preconstruction Manager to lead and coordinate all preconstruction activities across our Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, and Special Projects divisions. This position serves as the critical link between Estimating, Operations, Project Management, BIM, Fabrication, Procurement, and Field Leadership to ensure projects are planned, budgeted, staffed, and executed successfully from concept through turnover.
The Preconstruction Manager will play a key role in developing project execution strategies, improving constructability, identifying cost-saving opportunities, reducing risk, and ensuring seamless transitions from estimating to operations. This individual must possess a strong understanding of commercial MEP construction, project planning, scheduling, fabrication, manpower forecasting, and operational execution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Preconstruction Leadership
- Lead the preconstruction planning process for commercial MEP projects.
- Review contracts, scopes of work, plans, specifications, and project requirements.
- Develop and oversee project execution plans prior to construction start.
- Participate in project turnover meetings to ensure accurate transfer of information from estimating to operations.
- Coordinate preconstruction activities between Estimating, BIM, Fabrication, Procurement, Operations, and Field Leadership.
- Assist with development and validation of project schedules and milestone planning.
Estimating and Cost Analysis
- Partner with estimating teams to review budgets, labor assumptions, material costs, and production strategies.
- Evaluate labor productivity projections and workforce requirements.
- Identify opportunities for prefabrication and off-site manufacturing.
- Review estimates for constructability, labor efficiencies, and risk mitigation.
- Assist with conceptual budgeting, design-build estimates, and value engineering exercises.
- Identify potential cost overruns and develop corrective strategies before project execution.
Project Planning and Execution
- Develop detailed construction strategies and sequencing plans.
- Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with procurement planning and material management.
- Support development of short-term and long-range project schedules.
- Participate in pre-bid walkthroughs, site visits, and project planning meetings.
- Identify project risks and develop contingency plans.
- Collaborate with field leadership to proactively resolve constructability concerns.
Operational Excellence
- Promote Lean Construction principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain preconstruction standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Evaluate project performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity and profitability.
- Coordinate fabrication shop planning and field installation strategies.
- Support workforce planning and manpower forecasting efforts.
- Drive consistency across project planning processes company-wide.
Business Development and Client Relations
- Build and maintain relationships with owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, and industry partners.
- Participate in project interviews, presentations, and business development efforts.
- Support project pursuits by providing technical expertise and strategic planning.
- Assist leadership with market analysis and identification of growth opportunities.
- Represent Midstate Mechanical in a professional and client-focused manner.
Team Leadership
- Mentor estimators, project engineers, project managers, and preconstruction personnel.
- Facilitate collaboration between departments and project teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
- Support training and development initiatives for future leaders.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience
- Minimum 8 years of commercial construction experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a preconstruction, estimating, operations, or project management leadership role.
- Strong background in commercial mechanical, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or MEP construction.
- Experience with large-scale commercial, healthcare, industrial, manufacturing, mission-critical, or data center projects preferred.
- Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of commercial construction practices and methodologies.
- Advanced knowledge of project scheduling and construction sequencing.
- Experience with design-build and negotiated project delivery methods.
- Knowledge of BIM coordination, prefabrication, and Lean Construction principles.
- Strong financial acumen and understanding of project budgets.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
- Ability to analyze complex project information and make sound business decisions.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software platforms.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
