This role combines commercial driving, equipment operation, and hands-on environmental field work. The right candidate will have a valid CDL, strong mechanical aptitude, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to work in demanding outdoor conditions.
What You’ll Do
- Operate CDL vehicles, including vacuum trucks, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, equipment trailers, and other assigned vehicles.
- Safely transport equipment, materials, waste, tools, and supplies to and from job sites.
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections, driver logs, manifests, inspection records, and required DOT/FMCSA documentation.
- Operate equipment such as excavators, skid steers, backhoes, track hoes, loaders, and similar equipment.
- Support spill response, contaminated soil excavation, UST removal, tank cleaning, waste handling, site restoration, and environmental sampling.
- Respond to emergency spill calls, including after-hours, weekend, holiday, or on-call work as needed.
- Maintain vehicles, equipment, tools, and work areas in clean and safe operating condition.
- Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, site safety plans, and DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Communicate professionally with coworkers, project managers, clients, and subcontractors.
Requirements
- Valid Class A or Class B CDL with a clean driving record.
- Current DOT medical certification.
- Commercial driving experience preferred.
- Experience operating at least one type of heavy equipment, such as an excavator, skid steer, backhoe, loader, or similar equipment.
- Ability to perform physical labor in demanding outdoor conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work around equipment, excavations, tanks, industrial sites, fuel storage areas, and active remediation sites.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to safety, and ability to complete required logs and documentation accurately.
- Ability to respond to emergency callouts, including nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in environmental contracting, construction, excavation, industrial services, utilities, or a related field.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification, or willingness to obtain.
- Tanker, Hazmat, or X endorsement.
- Experience operating vacuum trucks, roll-off trucks, hydro-excavation equipment, or waste transport vehicles.
- Experience with UST removal, spill response, tank cleaning, or contaminated soil work.
- Confined space entry training.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
Work Schedule and Travel
This is a full-time position based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Schedule may vary based on project needs and emergency response calls. Local and regional travel is required. Some overnight travel may be required.
