Job Overview
We are seeking an energetic and compassionate Activities Director to join our team at our vibrant senior living community in Topeka. In this full-time role, you will be the heart of resident engagement, designing and implementing dynamic programs that promote social interaction, mental stimulation, and overall well-being. Duties
- Develop, coordinate, and execute a diverse range of recreational activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities, including memory care and dementia-specific programs
- Plan and oversee resident events such as social gatherings, outings, celebrations, and therapeutic activities that promote community involvement
- Build strong rapport with residents through personalized engagement and attentive communication to understand their preferences and needs
- Collaborate with care teams to integrate activities into individual care plans, especially for those requiring assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
- Manage scheduling of programs and ensure smooth operation of daily activities while maintaining safety protocols
- Lead and motivate a team of activity staff or volunteers to deliver high-quality programming consistently
- Maintain detailed records of resident participation, program outcomes, and feedback to continually improve offerings
Skills
- Proven experience in event planning, recreational therapy, or activity coordination within assisted living or nursing home settings
- Extensive knowledge of senior care practices, including Alzheimer's care, dementia care, geriatrics, and memory support strategies
- Strong background in program development tailored for residents with disabilities or special needs
- Excellent communication skills for engaging residents, families, staff, and community partners effectively
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for scheduling, documentation, and reporting purposes
- Ability to build meaningful rapport with residents while demonstrating empathy and patience
- Leadership skills to guide team members and foster a collaborative environment
- Experience working with geriatric patients in long-term care or senior living facilities is highly desirable
- Familiarity with assisting residents with ADLs and providing aging issues counseling when needed
- Applicant MUST HAVE CNA/CMA
