Job Description Summary
The Director of Clinical Services (DCS) is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and coordination of hospice and palliative clinical operations. This position ensures delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in compliance with the Medicare Conditions of Participation, state licensure requirements, and organizational policies. The DCS provides strategic and operational direction to the interdisciplinary team, oversees
clinical quality and regulatory compliance, and fosters a culture of compassion, accountability, respect, excellence, and support. This role is primarily office-based withregular field visits to patients, care settings, and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership for all direct and indirect patient care services delivered by the hospice clinical team, ensuring alignment with patient goals, clinical best practices, and regulatory standards.
Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate clinical operations to promote quality, efficiency, and adherence to established performance metrics.
Ensure timely, accurate, and complete clinical documentation, and oversee the maintenance of patient records, statistics, and reports in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Participate in quality assessment and performance improvement activities, survey preparedness, and state or accrediting body inspections.
Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and, when necessary, counsel or terminate clinical staff.
Conduct regular performance evaluations, support professional development, and ensure ongoing competency through education and training programs.
Serve as a resource for complex patient care needs, collaborating with the Medical
Director, providers, and the interdisciplinary group (IDG) to resolve clinical concerns, escalate urgent needs, and promote safe, effective care transitions.
Support the orientation of new staff, in-service education, and mentoring of emerging leaders.
Maintain appropriate inventory of clinical supplies and equipment, and ensure infection
prevention and safety protocols are followed at all times.
Engage in relationship-building with community partners, referral sources, and other stakeholders to promote Arc Hospice & Palliative Care's mission.
Uphold the organization's commitment to patient and family-centered care, ensuring that each plan of care honors the individual's values, goals, and preferences.
Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited nursing program; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Current RN license in the state of operation, or a valid multistate compact license if applicable. Must meet any additional state-specific requirements for the lead clinical role, including:
- Texas: RN license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing; at least 2 years of nursing experience, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or administrative role in hospice, home health, or related health care setting.
Minimum three (3) years of hospice or related home health management experience.
Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise an interdisciplinary clinical team.
Thorough knowledge of Medicare Conditions of Participation, state hospice regulations, and clinical best practices.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in EMR systems, Microsoft Office applications, and data analysis tools.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
