We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Prototype Technician to join our innovative engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, assembling, testing, and troubleshooting prototypes to support product development and manufacturing processes. Your expertise in mechanical design, fabrication, and technical troubleshooting will drive the creation of functional prototypes that meet project specifications. Duties
- Assemble prototypes using hand tools, welding, soldering, and fabrication techniques in accordance with engineering drawings and schematics
- Utilize CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Creo to interpret designs and modify components as needed
- Operate CNC machines and machining tools to produce precise mechanical parts following strict tolerances
- Conduct mechanical drafting, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and schematic reviews to ensure design accuracy
- Perform root cause analysis on prototype failures or issues, identifying design or process improvements
- Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and industrial machinery using schematics, schematics, calipers, micrometers, and precision measuring instruments
- Support maintenance and repair of prototype equipment, ensuring compliance with ASME codes & standards
Requirements
- Proven experience in mechanical engineering, mechanical design, or industrial mechanic roles with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo; experience with LabVIEW is a plus
- Skilled in mechanical drafting, schematics interpretation, and technical troubleshooting of industrial equipment
- Hands-on experience with CNC machining, fabrication techniques, welding, soldering, and use of hand tools
- Knowledge of GD&T principles, precision measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers), and ASME codes & standards
- Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement effective solutions quickly
- Strong math skills for technical calculations related to mechanical design and fabrication
- Experience working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) is desirable but not required
- Excellent project scheduling skills to manage multiple prototypes simultaneously
