The Compounding Pharmacy Technician is an entry-level role responsible assisting with the preparation, counting, labeling, and documentation of designated non-sterile compounded medications. Accuracy, consistency, and strict adherence to SOPs are essential. The Compounding Pharmacy Technician plays a direct role in patient safety and product quality and must demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and a willingness to ask questions when uncertain.

Apply pharmaceutical techniques required for nonsterile compounding

Prepare formulas, package prescription orders, fill containers with correct medications, and affix accurate labels

Ensure standards for accuracy, potency, and documentation are met

Operate, monitor, and maintain compounding equipment according to manufacturer guidelines

Maintain appropriate inventory levels for compounding and dispensing materials
-
Assist with removal of expired or outdated chemicals and medications

Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklist tasks including cleaning, environmental monitoring, and maintenance

Maintain a clean, organized, and inspectionready work area at all times

Demonstrate proficiency with pharmacy dispensing software as trained

Communicate effectively with patients and providers when appropriate and refer questions to supervisors when warranted

Work cooperatively with pharmacists, technicians, and supervisors to support workflow and quality

High School Diploma or equivalent

Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hire)

Registration with the Tennessee or North Carolina Board of Pharmacy (must be obtained within 90 days of employment)

Ability to become proficient in nonsterile compounding as verified by competency checklist
