Purpose of Job
A principal engineer is a senior-level engineering professional who oversees projects, provides technical leadership, and guides engineering teams to ensure successful project execution.
1. Technical Leadership: Principal engineers are the chief technical experts within their teams. They provide a vision and strategic direction for projects, ensuring that engineering solutions align with business goals and industry standards.
2. Project Management: They oversee the planning, design, and execution of engineering projects, ensuring that all requirements are met and that projects are completed on time and within budget.
3. Mentorship: Principal engineers mentor junior and senior engineers, sharing their expertise and helping to develop the skills of their team members. This includes conducting design reviews and providing guidance on complex technical issues.
4. Innovation and Research: They are responsible for exploring new technologies and methodologies that can improve project outcomes and streamline processes. This involves staying updated on industry trends and integrating innovative solutions into their work.
5. Collaboration: Principal engineers often work across multiple teams and departments, facilitating communication and collaboration to ensure that all aspects of a project are aligned and that any challenges are addressed promptly.
Major Duties / Responsibilities of Job
- Set up machines for new model to include building, retooling of machines, program creation, vision solution implementation.
- Investigate & Develop New Methods for Testing (R&D).
- Support production and maintenance with false failures and downtime on production test equipment. Facilitate necessary training. Support existing equipment with current production and new model addition.
- Set up tests in reaction to internal or external rejects and or escapes.
- Make changes to SQL databases based on testing and/or reporting requirements.
- Implement Design Changes as required including machine modification
MINIMUM Knowledge, Experience, and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Five years of applicable work experience in automotive industry (or similar)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Ability to work independently and with little supervision Able to interpret, adhere to & implement applicable ISO, ANSI, NFPA 79, and NEC regulations
- Ability to comprehend US Department of Transportation regulations on Vehicle Displays.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.), AutoCAD
- Proficient in PLC programming (RSLogix 5000 preferred)
- Proficient in networking, TCP/IP, OPC, etc Proficient in creating electrical drawings and PLC ladder logic diagrams
- Proficient in conceptualization of automated processes and converting to PLC logic
- Ability to develop SQL databases, queries, etc.
- Proficient in programming languages (VB, C/C++/C# etc)
- Proficient in machine vision systems (Cognex VisionPro/Keyence)
PREFERRED Knowledge, Experience, and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or higher
- Seven years of applicable work experience in automotive industry (or similar)
- ISO 13849-1 & ANSI Z244 & NFPA 79 government safety regulations Robotics Operations / Programming Certification (Fanuc, Mitsubishi, etc.)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per week
