Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled OSP and/or OPGW Fiber Technician to join our dynamic telecommunications team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber optic systems in outdoor environments, ensuring the reliable delivery of high-speed data and voice services. Your expertise will support the expansion and maintenance of our fiber optic network infrastructure, contributing to seamless connectivity for our customers. Responsibilities
- Install, splice, and test fiber optic cables including OSP (Outside Plant) and OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) systems in accordance with industry standards and schematics
- Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, power tools, and other construction machinery safely and efficiently during installation projects
- Use diagnostic tools and telecommunications testing equipment to troubleshoot network issues and verify system performance
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting guides to accurately execute installation and repair tasks
- Perform telecommunications cable splicing, network cabling, and fiber splicing to ensure optimal signal integrity across the fiber optic network
- Conduct outdoor work in various weather conditions while adhering to safety protocols outlined by the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and company policies
- Support telecommunications outside plant operations by climbing poles, working at heights, and managing low voltage electrical systems
Qualifications
- Proven experience in field service roles involving fiber optic systems installation, maintenance, or repair
- Hands-on experience operating heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, power tools, and climbing safely at heights
- Knowledge of telecommunication testing equipment, fiber splicing techniques, and interpreting technical drawings or schematics
- Strong understanding of telecommunications network infrastructure including LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), Ethernet, telephony systems, and IT infrastructure
- Ability to troubleshoot engineering issues related to fiber optic networks using diagnostic tools and technical troubleshooting support
- Outdoor work experience with a focus on safety standards like the NESC is highly desirable
- Excellent hand tool skills along with familiarity with construction practices related to telecommunications cable installation
- Electrical experience or background in low voltage wiring is a plus
- Effective communication skills for interpreting schematics and collaborating with team members on complex projects
