Position Summary
The Turret Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC turret punch press equipment to produce high-quality metal components according to engineering drawings, work orders, and production schedules. This position ensures parts are manufactured safely, accurately, and efficiently while meeting quality standards and production requirements. The Turret Operator works closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to support on-time delivery and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Turret Operator plays a critical role in the manufacturing process by transforming raw materials into precision components that support customer orders and production schedules. The quality, accuracy, and efficiency of this role directly impact product quality, operational throughput, scrap reduction, customer satisfaction, and overall company profitability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Machine Operation

Set up and operate CNC turret punch press equipment according to work instructions and production requirements.
- Load raw materials into machines and ensure proper alignment and positioning.
- Run production jobs while monitoring machine performance and product quality.
- Adjust machine settings, tooling, and parameters as needed to maintain quality standards.
- Perform first-piece inspections and periodic quality checks throughout production runs.
- Monitor machine output and identify opportunities to improve cycle times and efficiency.
Quality Assurance

Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, and specifications.
- Inspect finished components using measuring devices such as calipers, tape measures, micrometers, and gauges.
- Verify dimensions, hole patterns, tolerances, and overall part quality.
- Document production and inspection results accurately.
- Identify and report nonconforming materials, equipment issues, or quality concerns immediately.
Equipment Maintenance

Perform daily machine inspections and routine preventive maintenance tasks.
- Maintain tooling, dies, and machine components in proper working condition.
- Keep equipment clean and organized.
- Report maintenance needs and equipment malfunctions to supervision promptly.
- Assist maintenance personnel with troubleshooting and repairs as required.
Production Support

Review production schedules and prioritize work according to departmental requirements.
- Ensure materials, tooling, and documentation are available before beginning production runs.
- Assist with material handling, staging, and movement of completed parts.
- Support cross-functional teams to resolve production challenges and improve workflow.
- Participate in setup reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
Safety & Compliance

Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements.
- Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area using 5S principles.
- Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and audits.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses immediately.
Leadership Responsibilities
While this position does not have direct supervisory responsibility, the Turret Operator is expected to:

Qualifications
Education
-
High School Diploma or GED required.
- Technical or vocational training in manufacturing, machining, or metal fabrication preferred.
Experience
-
2+ years of experience operating CNC turret punch press equipment preferred.
- Experience in sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing environments preferred.
- Experience with CNC controls and programming adjustments is a plus.
