Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles in accordance with traffic laws and transportation safety regulations.
- Transport passengers—including children, seniors, or individuals with disabilities—while ensuring their safety and comfort at all times.
- Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance, boarding, alighting, and provide support for those with special needs or mobility challenges.
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents and respond swiftly to traffic changes or unexpected situations to ensure passenger safety.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to identify mechanical issues and ensure compliance with vehicle codes and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate logs of trips, passenger counts, and safety checks; complete incident reports when necessary.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, passengers, and team members using clear language; utilize bilingual skills when applicable to serve diverse communities.
Requirements
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for bus driving and passenger transportation.
- Must be over 25 years old.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency stop procedures.
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse populations.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment; physically fit to meet job demands.
- Familiarity with student discipline policies and behavior management techniques for maintaining order onboard.
- Mechanical knowledge for basic vehicle troubleshooting; ability to perform routine vehicle inspections.
- Demonstrated commitment to passenger safety, customer service excellence, and adherence to school policy guidelines.
