Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Medical Biller and Patient Receptionist to join our eye healthcare team. This vital role combines front-desk patient interactions with accurate medical billing and coding responsibilities. Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly upon arrival, verify personal information, and assist with check-in procedures to foster a welcoming environment
- Collect patient information, update medical records, and ensure all documentation is accurate and complete in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems
- Explain billing procedures to patients, answer questions regarding insurance coverage, copayments, and outstanding balances with clarity and professionalism
- Prepare and submit healthcare claims using billing software, ensuring compliance with coding standards such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/10 (International Classification of Diseases), and ICD coding.
- Review and process medical bills for accuracy, follow up on unpaid claims, and manage collections related to outstanding balances
- Collaborate with insurance companies to resolve claim denials or discrepancies in healthcare claims management
- Maintain detailed records of medical billing activities, patient interactions, and correspondence for audit readiness and regulatory compliance
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting, with familiarity in DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding systems, and ICD coding standards
- Strong knowledge of health insurance policies, medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare claims processing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel for documentation purposes
- Experience using billing software platforms along with EMR/EHR systems to streamline operations
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly to patients of diverse backgrounds
- Prior work in a medical office environment preferred; familiarity with medical collection processes is advantageous
- Understanding of healthcare regulations related to medical billing and patient privacy standards
