Smart Tech is seeking a talented and motivated Product Development Engineer / Mechanical Design Engineer to join our product development team.
We help inventors, entrepreneurs, startups, and established companies transform ideas into real products. Every project is different, giving you the opportunity to work on a wide variety of consumer products, industrial products, prototypes, and production parts.
You will work directly with the owner, who has built a reputation for solving difficult engineering and manufacturing problems using advanced CAD design, rapid prototyping, and 3D printing. Initially, the owner will assign projects, provide technical direction, review your work, and coordinate directly with customers while you learn our design process and manufacturing methods.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys creating physical products, learning new technologies, and solving practical engineering challenges.
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical components and assemblies using Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software.
- Create accurate 3D models, engineering drawings, and manufacturing files.
- Modify and improve customer designs for manufacturability.
- Prepare models for advanced 3D printing, CNC machining, urethane casting, and injection molding.
- Build, test, and refine prototypes.
- Assist with product development from concept through production.
- Research materials, manufacturing methods, and production processes.
- Maintain organized project files and engineering documentation.
- Work closely with the owner on a variety of customer projects.
- Continuously develop your engineering and manufacturing knowledge.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent hands-on product development experience.
- Strong CAD skills using Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or comparable software.
- Experience designing mechanical products and assemblies.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- Experience with rapid prototyping and 3D printing.
- Knowledge of CNC machining, injection molding, or other manufacturing methods is a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to take direction, ask questions, and work independently once trained.
- Desire to continually learn and improve.
Work Environment
- Full-time
- On-site in the Seattle/Renton area
- Approximately 5–6 days per week
- Small, fast-paced engineering environment
- Direct collaboration with the owner on real customer projects
- Wide variety of engineering challenges rather than repetitive production work

This is a hands-on position where you'll help transform customer ideas into manufacturable products while gaining experience with every stage of product development—from concept and CAD design through prototyping, testing, and manufacturing.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
