SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST (SPECIALIST) (LIMITED-TERM) – ANGELES DISTRICT / NATURAL RSOURCES DIVISION / WILL ROGERS STATE HISTORIC PARK
This position is a 12-month Limited-Term position that may be extended and/or become permanent.
The reporting location for this position is at Malibu Creek State Park located at 1925 Las Virgenes Rd, Calabasas CA 91302. This position will work under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor).
Under the direction and supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) serves as the lead for the Angeles District Early Detection Rapid Response (EDRR) invasive species program. Will assist districtwide responsible for managing the implementation and reporting activities associated with Natural Resources Botanist responsibilities. Will coordinate between departments, track expenditures, prepare required documentation, and ensure that all program objectives are met in alignment with grant guidelines. This position provides advanced scientific expertise to identify, monitor, and control invasive plants that threaten post-fire recovery and sensitive habitats. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing survey protocols, ensuring environmental compliance, and coordinating with partner agencies and contractors. Also leads Environmental Services Interns (ESIs) in the field and prepares reports and deliverables required under the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy (SMMC) grant.
The incumbent exercises a high degree of initiative, judgment, and analytical skill in coordinating sensitive and high-priority assignments that require collaboration with internal divisions, the Natural Resources Agency, control agencies, and other stakeholders.
Occasional travel may be required. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

Work environment is an office/outdoor setting, using computers, telephone and other business equipment. Typical work activities involve frequent and prolonged periods of sitting. Typical work involves extended telephone conversations and keyboard operation. Hand dexterity to use telephone, keyboard and calculators are common requirements. Move about, stand, reach, stoop or bend. Use fine motor skills for computer or office machine use. Occasionally lift supply boxes minimum weight of 25 pounds. Use of hand cart to move supplies over 10 pounds of weight. Requires reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties. May involve some exposure to aggressive visitors. Will work outdoors in unpredictable weather ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold. May encounter wild animals. This is a uniformed position, uniform standards must be met. Must be willing to work weekends, nights, and holidays as necessary. Travel maybe required to meetings, conferences, trainings, and on site project locations and may need to use personal vehicle and have a valid class C drivers licence.
