Kenowa Hills Public Schools is seeking a student-centered and culturally responsive English Learner (EL) Paraprofessional to support multilingual learners in accessing grade-level curriculum, developing English language proficiency, and achieving academic success.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with EL teachers, classroom teachers, intervention staff, and families to provide instructional support, language development opportunities, and positive relationships that foster student growth, belonging, and engagement.
Applicants must meet Michigan paraprofessional qualification requirements through one of the following:
Associate's Degree or higher; OR
Minimum of sixty (60) earned college credit hours; OR
Passing score on the ETS ParaPro Assessment.
Applicants who do not meet one of the above requirements are not eligible for employment in this position.
CPI and Ukeru training required as a condition of employment (district training provided)
Experience working with Pre-K–12 students preferred
Experience supporting multilingual learners preferred
Bilingual or multilingual abilities preferred, but not required
Ability to support students in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and vocabulary development
Ability to support classroom instruction through individual and small-group interventions
Ability to establish positive relationships with students and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with teachers and support staff
Ability to collect data and maintain documentation as assigned
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Reliable and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position
Support English Learners in accessing grade-level curriculum and classroom instruction
Provide individual and small-group instructional support in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and vocabulary development
Assist students with language acquisition and academic success across content areas
Support implementation of instructional strategies designed for multilingual learners
Collaborate with EL teachers and classroom teachers to provide targeted support
Monitor student progress and assist with data collection and documentation
Support communication between school and families as appropriate
Assist students during classroom activities, specials, field trips, assemblies, and school events
Maintain active supervision of students and support positive behavioral expectations
Utilize CPI and Ukeru strategies as trained when responding to student behavioral concerns
Perform additional duties as assigned
This is an in-person position requiring regular on-site attendance. The essential functions of this position cannot be performed remotely.

This position requires the ability to:
Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and move frequently throughout the school day
Lift, carry, push, pull, and move instructional materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Support students in classrooms, intervention settings, specials, field trips, assemblies, and other educational environments
Maintain active supervision and awareness of student safety
Participate in outdoor activities and supervision as assigned
Move quickly and respond appropriately to student needs, safety concerns, and emergencies
Utilize instructional technology and student data systems
The work environment may include moderate to high noise levels, frequent movement, changing schedules, and the need to support students with diverse academic, linguistic, and social-emotional needs.
Pursuant to PA 131, the selected candidate must receive clearance from the Michigan State Police Department prior to employment through Livescan fingerprinting. The candidate is responsible for the fingerprinting background check fee.
