Job Title: ID/OD Precision Grinder
Department: Manufacturing / Machining
Reports To: Operations Manager or Production Assistant Manager
Position Summary
The ID/OD Precision Grinder is responsible for setting up and operating precision grinding equipment to manufacture and finish components to exact specifications and tight tolerances. This position performs internal diameter (ID) and external diameter (OD) grinding operations while ensuring product quality, safety, and production efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Set up and operate ID/OD grinding machines to produce precision components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
· Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and technical drawings.
· Select and install grinding wheels, tooling, fixtures, and machine attachments.
· Measure and inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, calipers, and dial indicators.
· Maintain dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements, often within ±0.0002" to ±0.0005".
· Perform machine adjustments to ensure conformance to specifications.
· Monitor machine performance and identify potential quality or equipment issues.
· Complete first-piece, in-process, and final inspections.
· Document production data, inspection results, and job-related information accurately.
· Perform routine preventive maintenance and maintain equipment cleanliness.
· Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies.
· Collaborate with engineers, quality personnel, and production staff to resolve manufacturing issues.
Required Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Minimum of 2–5 years of precision grinding experience preferred.
· Experience operating ID/OD cylindrical grinding machines.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
· Strong understanding of grinding processes, wheel selection, and machine setup.
· Proficiency using precision measuring and inspection equipment.
· Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to stand for extended periods.
· Frequent lifting of materials and components up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, coolant, and metal particles.
