JOB TITLE: Incoming Inspector
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager and Operations Supervisor
JOB TYPE: Full-time, non-exempt
LOCATION: 3175 Lake Shore Rd. Blasdell NY, 14219
HOURS: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm, Saturdays and overtime as needed.
COMPENSATION: $17-20.00/hr., based on skills and experience.
PURPOSE: The incoming inspector's position supports plant operations by inspecting the incoming loads for non-conforming materials. They are also responsible for directing the flow of traffic to ensure safe unloading practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures a safe work environment for self and others at all times.
- Keeps management aware of any delays or discrepancies.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out simple one or two-step instructions.
- Informing/communicating with the yard/office personnel.
- Ensure that quality, environmental, and safety standards of Metalico Inc. for production, customers, and employees are consistently achieved.
- Inspect scrap loads to identify prohibited items, assign correct commodity codes, and assign deductions according to best practices.
- Inspect customer materials for liquids, non-metallic materials, and other non-acceptable materials (i.e., propane tanks, PCBs, batteries, etc.).
- Identify and record inspection data to include weight, grade, content, and quantity of scrap material.
- Ensure customers drop the correct material in the correct designated areas.
- Direct drivers to drop-off location(s).
- Communicate via 2-way radio with weigh master and yard personnel.
- Cross-training in other tasks/duties as needed and assigned by management.
- The ability to see well and distinguish between backup alarms, voices, and typical sounds.
- Ensure others around you are aware of your whereabouts.
- Work assigned schedule.
- Must be able to perform a variety of tasks in all kinds of weather/seasons.
- Required to wear proper PPE (safety toe boots, hard hat, safety glasses, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Able to operate forklifts, bobcats, loaders a plus.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time.
- Knowledge of the various ferrous and non-ferrous metals a plus.
- Quick learner who can follow directions.
- Good communication skills.
- Team player.
- Organized, consistent, and good at multitasking.
- Must have reliable transportation to work and valid identification.

- Physically able to participate in sessions, presentations, and meetings.
- Outside work in the Yard is where temperature and weather extremes (hot, cold, rain, snow) may be encountered.
- Work may take place in an industrial environment, with noise, dust & fumes.
- Noise level in the work environment can be moderate at times, hearing protection is provided by the Company at all times.
