Short Description:
As a Cytotechnologist, you will play a crucial role in the diagnosis and prevention of various diseases by examining cellular samples under a microscope. Your expertise in identifying abnormal cells and interpreting their significance will aid in providing accurate and timely diagnoses for our patients.

Perform microscopic examinations of cellular samples, including Pap smears, fine needle aspirations, body fluid specimens, and other specimens as required.

Identify and classify cellular abnormalities, such as precancerous and cancerous cells, infectious agents, and other pathological conditions.

Accurately document and interpret findings using established protocols and guidelines.

Collaborate with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to discuss abnormal findings and provide additional information for patient management.

Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure proper functionality and quality assurance.

Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Stay updated with the latest advances in cytology techniques and participate in continuing education to enhance professional knowledge and skills.

Assist with quality control measures and participate in proficiency testing programs.
Experience Required:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Cytotechnologist in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting

Proficiency in screening and interpreting cytology specimens, including Pap smears, non-gynecological specimens, and body fluids

Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy while working with delicate specimens

Excellent knowledge of cytological criteria, classification systems, and quality assurance measures

Familiarity with Meditech, Soarian and other relevant software applications

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team

Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle a high volume of cases efficiently

Experience in high‑volume cytology laboratories

Rapid On‑Site Evaluation (ROSE) experience

Experience with ThinPrep®, SurePath®, digital cytology imaging systems, or similar platforms
-
Prior exposure to CAP and/or Joint Commission inspections
Education Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Cytotechnology or a related field from an accredited institution.
Graduation from a CAAHEP‑accredited cytotechnology program (or another program accepted by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners)
Education must meet CLIA high‑complexity testing personnel standards
