We're looking for our first batch of Robotics Data Collectors to train robots how to interact with everyday objects . Using a handheld device called UMI, you'll physically demonstrate tasks like picking things up, opening containers, or moving objects around. This isn't remote-controlling a robot; it's you doing the task by hand while the device records exactly how you do it, so our AI can learn to do it the same way. Unlike typical "robot operator" roles, this position also requires comfort with basic electronics work: soldering, torquing screws to spec, and general electronics work.

Responsibilities
- Collect manipulation demonstration data using UMI rigs across a variety of tasks and environments, including soldering repairs and torquing hardware to specified values
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain data collection hardware
- Run data collection scripts from the command line and troubleshoot basic errors (e.g., checking logs, restarting a script, editing a file path)
- Organize, label, and upload collected data following internal data pipeline conventions
- Follow structured data collection protocols (SOPs) to ensure consistency and quality across sessions
- Flag hardware issues or data quality concerns to the engineering team
Qualifications
- Comfortable soldering and doing basic electronics assembly/repair (e.g., torquing screws to spec, wiring, minor hardware fixes)
- Able to use the command line confidently (navigating directories, running scripts, reading error messages)
- Basic understanding of bash and Python scripts — you don't need to code from scratch, but should be able to read a script, understand roughly what it does, and make small edits
- Capable of lifting up to 25-50 lbs and standing/moving for extended periods
- Strong attention to detail and consistency in following instructions
- Reliable transportation and ability to commute to our San Francisco office 5 days/week
- Authorized to work in the United States
Bonus Qualifications
- Prior experience with robotics, UMI, or ML/robot learning data collection
- Experience with Git or version-controlled environments
- Background in manufacturing, electronics assembly, hardware prototyping, or a related trade

Pay: $28.00 - $32.00 per hour
