Diesel Fleet Maintenance Manager
Schedule: Full-Time, M–F with on-call evenings/weekends as needed | Location: Odessa, TX (in-person)
Pay: $95,000–$115,000 base + 15% quarterly performance bonus + company vehicle for business use
Job Summary
I AM Trucking is hiring an experienced Diesel Fleet Maintenance Manager to own uptime, DOT compliance, and shop operations for our 26 company trucks and 10 owner-operators running crude, bulk commodities, and flatbed loads across the Permian and Delaware Basins. Candidates must have 5+ years of hands-on heavy-duty diesel experience and 2+ years managing a shop or fleet maintenance team. This is a hands-on senior shop leadership role reporting to the Operations Manager, with measurable KPIs and a meaningful performance bonus tied to fleet uptime, DOT pass rate, and maintenance cost per mile.
Qualifications — Diesel Fleet Maintenance Manager
Required:
- 5+ years of hands-on heavy-duty diesel mechanic experience
- 2+ years of fleet maintenance management or shop supervision experience
- Proven track record managing DOT compliance and FMCSA pass rates
- Experience managing maintenance budgets, cost-per-mile (CPM) tracking, and warranty recovery
- Strong working knowledge of Cummins (Peterbilt/Kenworth), and aftertreatment systems (DPF/DEF/SCR)
- Comfort with diagnostic software (Cummins Insite, JPRO, DDDL, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with fleet telematics platforms (Motive, Samsara, or similar)
- Ability to lead, coach, and hold technicians accountable to performance standards
- Valid Texas driver's license; CDL preferred but not required
Preferred:
- Oilfield trucking or Permian Basin operational experience
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Experience with TMS platforms, QuickBooks, and modern shop reporting tools
- ASE certification, Diesel Technology degree, or equivalent technical training
- Prior experience hiring, onboarding, and managing a team of 5+ technicians
Responsibilities — Diesel Fleet Maintenance Manager
- Own fleet uptime, targeting 92%+ availability across 26 company trucks and supporting 10 owner-operators
- Manage DOT inspection pass rate at 98%+ first-time pass and oversee FMCSA compliance documentation
- Build, maintain, and enforce preventive maintenance schedules with 95%+ PM adherence
- Track and report maintenance cost-per-mile (CPM), warranty recovery, and parts/labor variances against budget
- Lead, schedule, and develop a team of diesel technicians; conduct performance reviews and accountability conversations
- Coordinate daily with the Operations Manager, Logistics Manager, and Safety Manager to balance shop priorities against on-road revenue demands
- Manage vendor relationships, parts inventory, and outside-repair partnerships to control costs and turnaround times
- Conduct root-cause analysis on breakdowns and implement process improvements to reduce repeat failures
- Maintain accurate shop records, work orders, and maintenance history within IAT's TMS and reporting systems
- Respond to after-hours shop emergencies and breakdowns as needed; serve as on-call escalation point
- Partner with leadership team on capital purchases, fleet planning, and shop capacity decisions
