About the Role
As a Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing competitive and precise cost estimates for commercial construction projects. You’ll review project documents, assess site conditions, perform take-offs, and evaluate subcontractor bids. This role is ideal for someone with strong analytical abilities and industry expertise who enjoys collaborating across departments and managing multiple bids simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
Project Estimation & Bid Preparation
Analyze project drawings, plans, and specifications
Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions, access, and utilities
Perform quantity take-offs for materials, equipment, and labor
Submit RFIs to clarify bid requirements
Prepare and submit comprehensive bids on time
Maintain organized estimation documentation and historical data
Subcontractor & Vendor Management
Build and manage relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
Pre-qualify subcontractors and maintain an active bid list
Distribute project documents and solicit competitive bids
Analyze subcontractor proposals and negotiate best pricing
Mitigate risks through proposal review and scope clarification
Post-Award Responsibilities
Assist with subcontractor selection and buyout process
Support the project team with budget analysis and forecasting
Facilitate transition from estimating to project management
Track costs and contribute to lessons learned documentation
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Participate in business development and client proposal efforts
Recommend improvements to estimating tools, templates, and processes
Stay informed on construction market trends, materials, and pricing
Contribute to the overall efficiency and quality of the estimating department
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Minimum of 2 years of estimating experience in commercial or retail construction
Experience working with a general contractor is preferred
Familiarity with ground-up and tenant improvement projects
Skills & Technical Expertise
Strong ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Experience with PrimeBid, Timberline, or similar estimation software
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
Strong written and verbal communication abilities
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
