Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Surface Maintenance Mechanic to join our dynamic team in maintaining and repairing aircraft surfaces and related mechanical systems. As a Surface Maintenance Mechanic, you will be instrumental in performing routine inspections, troubleshooting complex issues, and executing repairs with precision and efficiency.
Duties
- Perform detailed inspections of aircraft surfaces, including airframes and sheet metal components, utilizing schematics, technical drawings, and CAD models.
- Conduct mechanical systems repair and fabrication using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons, torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, and precision measuring instruments.
- Utilize diagnostic tools such as multimeters (ohmmeters), ammeters, and coordinate measuring machines to identify root causes of mechanical or electrical issues.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting guides to accurately diagnose problems and implement effective solutions.
- Repair or replace damaged structural components using welding techniques and sheet metal fabrication methods while adhering to safety standards.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations including Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) and AS9100 quality standards specific to aerospace manufacturing and maintenance.
- Use CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to document maintenance activities, track parts inventory, and schedule preventive maintenance tasks.
- Assist in the assembly of aircraft components or industrial equipment as needed while ensuring proper torque specifications and safety protocols are followed.
- Support avionics and electrical systems troubleshooting by applying electrical experience and interpreting wiring diagrams or schematics.
- Operate heavy lifting equipment safely for the movement of large aircraft parts or assemblies in accordance with safety procedures.
Requirements
- Proven mechanic experience within an aviation maintenance facility or aerospace manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in aircraft maintenance or vehicle maintenance involving airframes or heavy industrial equipment.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, schematics, CAD files (including CATIA and AutoCAD), and engineering troubleshooting documents.
- Experience with sheet metal fabrication, welding (including soldering), and the use of specialized industrial tools such as power tools, calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, ohmmeters, ammeters, and precision measuring instruments.
- Electrical experience combined with knowledge of avionics systems is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with military aviation standards or military vehicle maintenance is a plus.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while following all safety guidelines; physically capable of working in various positions for extended periods.
- Knowledge of FAA regulations (Federal Aviation Regulations) relevant to aircraft maintenance operations.
- Experience working with CMMS software for maintenance tracking is preferred.
