Job Overview - General Summary:
The Director of Sales is responsible for developing and executing revenue-driving sales strategies and compliant marketing initiatives within the regulated cannabis industry. This role leads brand growth, market expansion, key account relationships, and sales team performance while ensuring strict adherence to state and local cannabis regulations.
Responsibilities:
Sales Leadership
· Develop and execute short- and long-term sales strategies to meet revenue and market share goals
· Lead, mentor, and manage sales managers, account executives, and brand representatives
· Build and maintain strong relationships with dispensaries, distributors, and strategic partners
· Oversee pricing strategy, promotions, and contract negotiations
· Forecast sales, manage pipelines, and track KPIs using CRM tools
· Identify new markets, accounts, and product opportunities
Marketing Strategy & Brand Management
· Create and execute compliant marketing campaigns aligned with brand positioning
· Oversee brand messaging across digital, retail, trade, and experiential channels
· Collaborate with creative teams on packaging, point-of-sale materials, and brand assets
· Guide product launches, go-to-market strategies, and promotional calendars
· Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and competitor activity
Compliance & Industry Knowledge
· Ensure all sales and marketing activities comply with state cannabis regulations
· Stay current on advertising restrictions, packaging laws, and licensing requirements
· Work closely with compliance and legal teams to mitigate risk
Cross-Functional Collaboration
· Partner with operations, cultivation/manufacturing, and supply chain teams to align demand and inventory
· Collaborate with finance on budgets, forecasts, and ROI analysis
· Support executive leadership with reporting, insights, and strategic planning
Required Qualifications
· 7+ years of sales leadership experience
· 3+ years in the cannabis industry (strongly preferred)
· Proven track record of driving revenue growth and managing teams
· Deep understanding of cannabis market dynamics and regulations
· Strong negotiation, communication, and leadership skills
· Experience with CRM platforms, analytics, and forecasting tools
Preferred Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field
· Experience with multi-state operations (MSO)
· Established industry relationships and network
