Sanitation Worker
Position works Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm with occasional overtime.
This position is involved in the collection of residential and commercial solid waste which includes removal of brush, leaves, and bulky items such as furniture, appliances, and electronics; residential and commercial curbside recyclables collection; commercial corrugated cardboard collection.
Position rides the back of the truck and manually lifts waste and recycling containers, emptying contents into the truck; screens out items that cannot be picked up and providing/leaving explanation for homeowner. Position also watches for traffic, directs traffic around the truck as needed, and assists with washing and cleaning the truck. Position will also perform other duties as assigned such as assisting with snow removal, loading salt, ice and spreaders, various maintenance duties, special events, and other manual tasks.
Education and Experience: Ability to read and write and to perform heavy manual labor tasks involved in sanitation collection; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Working Conditions: Frequent exposure of up to 80% of work time to dirt, dust, extreme weather temperatures, noise, and noxious fumes and odors, and potentially hazardous waste and chemicals.
Physical Abilities: Must be able to perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
Must be able to perform heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to make visual inspections of work assigned and completed.
