Give Thanks Bakery is described by some as “Michigan’s Premier European Artisan Bakery”. The business was founded in 1998 and has been a fixture in the small-business-landscape of Rochester, MI, ever since. With a newer locations in Royal Oak, we have grown our Main Street footprint to reach new neighborhoods. The Bakery uses old-world techniques including natural bread starters, hand shaping, freshly made pastries from scratch and artfully laminated doughs. We also have a broad offering of croissants, breakfast pastries, dessert pastries, cakes, and cookies. We are also proud partners of many restaurants and cafes in metro Detroit. We have the most talented bread and pastry teams, supported by our highly qualified counter staff that takes care of our retail customers’ needs. The bakery is currently open seven days each week.
Responsibilities:
The Pastry Assistant will be a key member of our Rochester Pastry Team, working under the supervision and direction of the Head Pastry Chef. Candidates should have experience in the fine art of European Torte construction and decoration and pastry assembly; formal culinary training is a plus. The Pastry Assistant will have varying responsibilities, depending on seasonal demand and the needs of the Bakery, but would include:
· Fabrication (bake, assembly and finish) of elegant sheet cakes for slice and individual sale
· Fabrication of individual pastries for retail and wholesale
· Dough lamination and croissant construction
- Actively participating in kitchen inventory management and maintenance
· 30-40 hours per week
Qualifications:
· Team-Oriented, cooperative, collaborative work style
· Previous dessert pastry experience, including mixing and baking of cakes, production of scratch buttercreams, glaze, ganache, pastry creams, mousses, curds, etc. and elegant decor
· Culinary education is a plus, but not required
· Willingness to strive for excellence always
· Comfortable with the physical demands of a busy kitchen environment
· Enthusiasm for the bakery business, especially artisan baking
We offer competitive wages ($17+ per hour depending on experience) and we are looking for long-term team members who will grow with our business.

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
