Medical Administrative & Prior Authorization Specialist
Farmington Valley Dermatology is seeking a reliable, organized, and experienced Medical Administrative & Prior Authorization Specialist to join our team full-time.
This is an in-office, Monday–Friday position. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a medical office, strong administrative skills, and hands-on experience with insurance prior authorizations. Experience in dermatology is preferred but not required.
Position Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day administrative responsibilities for the medical office
- Handle and process prior authorizations for medications, procedures, and treatments
- Communicate with insurance companies regarding authorization requirements, denials, and approvals
- Follow up on outstanding prior authorizations and ensure requests are completed in a timely manner
- Answer and manage incoming medical calls, providing professional and courteous assistance to patients
- Communicate with patients regarding appointments, authorizations, insurance questions, and other administrative needs
- Coordinate with physicians, clinical staff, pharmacies, and insurance companies as needed
- Maintain accurate patient and insurance information
- Work within the EMA/ModMed EMR system, Forus, Medsender & ect.
- Complete general administrative and clerical duties to support the office
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow all HIPAA requirements
- Provide excellent customer service and contribute to a professional, welcoming office environment
Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a medical office is required
- Prior experience with medical prior authorizations is required
- Previous medical administrative experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes
- Experience with an EMR system; EMA/ModMed experience is strongly preferred
- Strong computer and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize in a busy medical office
- Professional, dependable, and detail-oriented
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team
- Strong patient-service skills and a professional telephone manner

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced medical office professional who understands the administrative side of healthcare, is comfortable working with insurance companies and prior authorizations, and can confidently communicate with patients over the phone. We are looking for someone who is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and able to take ownership of their responsibilities.
Experience with dermatology, EMA/ModMed, and prior authorization processes is a strong plus.
Pay: $22.51 - $23.83 per hour
