SUMMARY:
The MEP Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership, technical oversight, and operational guidance for all Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Building Systems activities across the company's construction projects. This role serves as the primary subject matter expert for MEP systems, supporting project teams from preconstruction through project closeout to ensure quality, schedule, budget, safety, and commissioning objectives are achieved.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent field experience).
10 years of construction experience with a strong focus on managing MEP systems.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Strategic Oversight
Develop and implement company-wide MEP standards, best practices, processes, and quality control measures.
Serve as the organization's senior technical resource for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building systems.
Preconstruction & Estimating Support
Review design documents for constructability, completeness, coordination, and value engineering opportunities.
Assist with subcontractor qualification, scope development, bid leveling, and procurement strategies.
Design Management & Coordination
Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, industry standards, and project requirements.
Identify and mitigate design-related risks before construction activities begin.
Construction Operations
Provide oversight of MEP construction activities to ensure adherence to schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives.
Support project teams in resolving complex technical and field installation issues.
Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure contractual compliance.
Review project schedules and identify opportunities to improve MEP sequencing and execution.
Conduct site visits and audits to evaluate progress and quality of installations.
Commissioning, Startup & Closeout
Oversee commissioning plans and startup activities for major building systems.
Ensure systems testing, balancing, and operational verification are properly executed.
Monitor turnover documentation, training programs, warranties, and closeout requirements.
Assist project teams in achieving successful owner occupancy and project acceptance.
Support warranty and post-construction service efforts as needed.
Risk Management & Quality Assurance
Identify and proactively address technical, operational, and financial risks associated with MEP systems.
Lead quality assurance inspections and reviews.
Develop lessons-learned initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, developers, design partners, and subcontractors.
Participate in business development activities and project interviews. Provide technical expertise during project pursuits and client presentations.
Client & Business Development Support
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPECTATIONS:
Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems.
Proficiency with tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, Navisworks, and MS Project; working knowledge of Revit is a plus.
