The Bill of Materials (BOM) Specialist is responsible for creating, maintaining, auditing, and improving accurate Bills of Materials for trailer manufacturing operations. This role ensures all components, assemblies, raw materials, labor standards, and engineering changes are properly documented and maintained within company systems.
The BOM Specialist works closely with Engineering, Purchasing, Production, Cost Accounting, Inventory Control, and Quality departments to support efficient manufacturing operations, cost accuracy, production scheduling, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This position plays a critical role in reducing production errors, improving material flow, supporting costing accuracy, and ensuring manufacturing documentation remains current and accurate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
BOM Creation & Maintenance
· Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials for all trailer models, options, and configurations.
· Develop and update multi-level BOM structures for assemblies and subassemblies.
· Verify part numbers, descriptions, quantities, units of measure, and revision levels.
· Ensure BOMs align with engineering drawings, specifications, and production requirements.
· Maintain routing and labor information when applicable.
· Maintain accurate ERP system data.
· Perform regular BOM audits and validation checks.
· Establish and maintain standardized naming conventions and documentation practices.
· Ensure compliance with company procedures and manufacturing standards.
Engineering Change Management
· Coordinate BOM revisions with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Costing and Inventory departments.
· Ensure obsolete materials and superseded components are properly managed.
Production & Manufacturing Support
· Support manufacturing by resolving BOM discrepancies and material issues.
· Assist Production and Purchasing teams with material identification and shortages.
· Review manufacturing processes to ensure BOM accuracy and efficiency.
Costing & Inventory Support
· Assist with product costing by maintaining accurate material and labor data.
· Work with Inventory Control to improve inventory accuracy and reduce material waste.
· Help identify cost-saving opportunities through standardization and material optimization.
Continuous Improvement
· Identify opportunities to improve BOM processes, workflows, and system efficiency.
· Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Help develop documentation standards and best practices.
Additional Responsibilities
· Support new product launches and prototype builds.
· Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Preferred Qualifications
· Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred.
· Equivalent office experience may be considered in place of formal education.
· 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, engineering support, inventory control, or BOM management preferred.
· Experience in trailer manufacturing or heavy manufacturing preferred.
